On November 8, 2022, the President, Professor Xiang Zhang, paid a visit to the HKUMed Laboratory of Cellular Therapeutics. This visit aimed to provide the President with a comprehensive understanding of the cutting-edge GMP facility and create avenues for fruitful exchange and interaction. Professor Zhang’s presence undoubtedly brought valuable insights and fostered a spirit of collaboration between the laboratory and the University’s leadership.

We were delighted to host Dr Dominic Wall, one of the external advisors of our Committee of Management, at our laboratory to share his insights with our technical staff on August 21, 2023. Dr Wall, renowned for his expertise in cell therapy manufacturing, delivered an enlightening lecture in the morning, discussing the principles of controlled environments for cell and gene therapy and introducing CAR-T manufacturing. In the afternoon, Dr Wall had the opportunity to explore our facilities, allowing for valuable discussions and further strengthening our collaboration. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from Dr Wall’s expertise; we look forward to implementing his recommendations to further enhance our CAR-T manufacturing capabilities and exploring further opportunities for collaboration in training professionals.
The laboratory has received an incredibly generous donation from an individual donor, Ms Yeung Bick Yee Amy, which enabled us to achieve significant milestones in our research and development of advanced therapeutic products. As a token of appreciation, we have named our Quality Control (QC) room after Ms Yeung’s father, Mr Young Chi Wan. A mental plaque in memory of Mr Young is in place to symbolize our gratitude for the valuable support of the donor.
To commemorate this significant milestone, an unveiling ceremony was hosted on June 19, 2024. We were honored to have the presence of esteemed donor representatives, Mr Ernest Wong, Ms Elsie Leung, and Ms Xiaobin Wang. Their attendance at the ceremony, alongside our dedicated leads, Professor HF Tse, Academic Lead of the laboratory, and Professor Eric Tse, Associate Dean (Research), allowed us to express our deep appreciation for their invaluable contributions.
We extend our sincere hope that this remarkable act inspires more support for our lab’s work in advanced therapeutic products, being a part of our journey towards transforming healthcare.
